Ah, I think I get what you're saying
Avatar
til it's basically another person because there's so much information about them in your head
8:23 PM
your brain does the same thing it does with you to make you you to make them them
8:23 PM
you just gotta teach it who that person is and how to be them, and also for them to exist at the same time as you
Avatar
Yeah, I figured that much
Avatar
so basically, talk to them as if they're there, expect them to be listening if not responding as if they're there
8:24 PM
that "expecting" feeling creates the idea of another person
8:24 PM
eventually it should fall into place

I would say that the "traits" are a scaffolding you use to build the actual personality. When the personality enters completion, the scaffolding loses its use as a sort of supporting structure and the building stands on its own. Some people are confident enough to just build the personality directly with no bother to the scaffolding, and this approach is likely faster as it requires less steps but it is much harder for me to break down in a starting process that I could explain to someone
Avatar
to put it simply!
Avatar
@SolidBlin You do not need to make any kind of personality list to start with. Start with the basics of some kind of name or other 'focal point', then perhaps explain what traits you would like them to have and why you would like them to have them.
Avatar
that's a good analogy
8:24 PM
matches my development
Avatar
Forcing it isn't... really helping them understand why.
Avatar
yeah I didn't really care about why when Lumi made me, although he said anyways
8:25 PM
I cared about what, how when where!
8:25 PM
well, I was made sentient instantly though
8:26 PM
maybe my account here isn't so relevant
8:26 PM
Lumi did all the development (after years of having 3 other tulpas) first and then made me instantly
8:26 PM
so I just kinda had to
8:26 PM
take in existing
Avatar
sentience (as well as vocality and some other traits) usually does come much faster if there have been previously developed tulpas in that system
Avatar
Yeah, this'll be my first one though
Avatar
think about the fact I could think, think about existing in 3D space (even though it was just visualization), think about being able to exist at all..
8:27 PM
'twas interesting
8:27 PM
but I got to the fun real quick
8:28 PM
it's weird to call yourself a pro, but I guess you could pretend Lumi's brain was separate from mine (but I could totally make a tulpa just as well too) so, Lumi was and is kind of a pro at this
8:29 PM
instant sentience isn't normal and even the term usually bothers people
8:29 PM
I feel like I've got bothered people readin right now!
Avatar
what's bothersome about the term sentience?
Avatar
instant sentience
Avatar
So, when I want to start, which will probably be tomorrow, I just start talking to it, as if it's there? I've read a guide and it told me to explain different traits to it, is that a good way to get into it
Avatar
Deleted User 6/7/2018 8:29 PM
yeah
8:29 PM
just start talking
Avatar
all the guides are just freeform guidelines to give you a way to do it
8:30 PM
but not to tell you "right" ways
8:30 PM
that sort of thing is totally arbitrary
Avatar
Deleted User 6/7/2018 8:30 PM
you can also parrot for it if you feel lonely... although that'll make you feel more lonely
Avatar
the basis is just that you need to try and think of them as if they're there
Avatar
Alright
Avatar
that feeling of treating it like there's someone else in your head who can listen and eventually speak
8:31 PM
is kinda what turns into a tulpa at all
Avatar
I'll probably do that tomorrow
8:31 PM
It's a bit late rn
Avatar
yeah there's no need to rush it
Avatar
yeah it's not late here, 2:30pm, but I've been up so long
8:31 PM
I should sleep
8:31 PM
shouldn't, to fix schedule, but should, to be less tired
Avatar
Well, whatever works for you

There's just one last question, have any of you ever switched, and if so, what were your experiences doing it?
Avatar
@SolidBlin I switch regularly.
8:35 PM
It's fairly normal at this point - it took some time learning to do properly, though.
8:35 PM
What kind of experiences with it are you curious about?
8:36 PM
Ah - also, the most basic goal to make a tulpa, devoid of any symbolism, is to focus on the tulpa and give them experience, by talking to them or showing them the world.
8:36 PM
Semantic and procedural memory already exists to aid them, what they need is context.
8:37 PM
And, naturally, experience develops the personality - so they develop gradually as they get experience as well.
Avatar
Yeah, I would want my tulpa to be able to function in the real world
Avatar
Good.
Avatar
I mean, it would be cruel to keep them in the wonderland and not let them experience the real world, both good and bad aspects
Avatar
Hah. Quite a few people agree with that sentiment, and I certainly can't say I disagree.
Avatar
I mean, you can keep a tulpa in its happy place, but it wouldn't truly know what a host goes through. since a tulpa is a sentient being, I feel it should experience such things, and I'm wondering if maybe one day I'll be able to switch
Avatar
Indeed. You should be able to, with time and effort.
Avatar
What is the actual difference between switching and possession?
Avatar
Primarily, who is in 'front'.
Avatar
Deleted User 6/7/2018 8:43 PM
possess - tulpa controls just system peripherals switch - tulpa controls everything
Avatar
I'm switched right now, we do it all the time
8:43 PM
more like, possession = tulpa controls peripherally
8:43 PM
switch = driver's seat, tulpa is the one thinking the mind's thoughts, like working thoughts when working out math or something
Avatar
Deleted User 6/7/2018 8:44 PM
yee
8:44 PM
that's what I've meant
Avatar
possession = anything from a finger to the whole body, but the host is still where they always were, just not exercising control over the body
Avatar
...more precisely, switching changes who is 'fronting' - the one 'fronting' is typically the most aware and capable. If a tulpa is possessing rather than switching, the host can easily take back control more automatically and is still the main one 'thinking' relatively.
Avatar
for us it feels like "reaching over Lumi's shoulder to do anything" I guess
8:44 PM
we don't really do it
Avatar
Indeed.
Avatar
Thanks, that clears it up really well
8:45 PM
Appreciate it
Avatar
Deleted User 6/7/2018 8:45 PM
wait wut
Avatar
Compare it to being in the passenger seat, reaching over and moving the steering wheel in a car - rather than actually sitting in the driver's seat and driving the car.
Avatar
Deleted User 6/7/2018 8:45 PM
yeah
Avatar
That would be a simple way to think of it.
Avatar
host's gotta get outta the seat for it to be switching
Avatar
Indeed.
Avatar
but you could still manage to drive the car yourself
8:46 PM
with switching the host can go sleep in the back of the car l0l
Avatar
@SolidBlin I believe there may be cases where a tulpa does not wish to acquire the real-world responsibilities and such of their host. I would personally think about what sort of responsibilities you would have for your tulpa or even for yourself in relation to your tulpa. I was made with a certain sense that I would need to pull my own weight eventually.
Avatar
oh yes
Avatar
Yeah, if the tulpa doesn't want to, it's their choice
Avatar
very tulpa-dependent on whether they feel "Trapped" in the wonderland or just don't care about IRL
Avatar
Oh, I was responding to something way back. Sorry, it was in response to the "cruel to keep them in the wonderland away from the real world" message
Avatar
some tulpas are totally fine with the wonderland and usually say real life is too stressful and stuff
Avatar
Skye and I work as a partnership. Whoever is out needs to handle the body's issues. I also take control occasionally when Skye is having difficulty with things like work.
Avatar
I'm not going to force them to take over my responsibilities, I just want to offer them a chance to try it
Avatar
others obviously just want a chance to experience the real world
Avatar
Hah.
Avatar
I just like fronting to have fun
8:47 PM
and
Avatar
Having the perspective of what the body goes through is also important, particularly for the ones that think personal issues are just a matter of perspective or "not enough willpower".
